Warriors Orochi
Well, and here I got Akechi's Personal Item the first time without trying too hard. Meanwhile, Ranmaru's Personal Item I failed 5 times before getting it the 6th time.
The faq doesn't seem to make it clear enough the serious time crunch under which you're working while trying to get Ranmaru's Personal Item. It also doesn't make clear whether or not the tasks that it lists for you to perform must be done in a certain proper order (if not, that may've helped the time crunch some). It also doesn't make clear how many task forces show up that you need to stop. It's too vague to be a walk-through, and it's too specific to be just a listing of tasks you need to accomplish, so it was just confusing for me to try and figure out what I really needed to do during my umpteen attempts at this.
First time I tried, Sun Ce died, so I lost the stage. I hate it when that happens. Second time, I took too long. Fail. Third time, I let the second group of engineers go and they burned my main camp. Fail. Fourth time I thought the guy in the upper-middle of the board (behind Sakon) ran away because he was no longer in his spot when his number came up on my list (he was actually over with Lu Xun so I didn't realize he was still there), so I ran out of time. Fail. Fifth time, Gan Ning got to the docks before I could kill him. Fail. Sixth time, with some INTERIM SAVING (that I didn't end up needing), finally, I got it. :P
Ranmaru's Personal Item: how to
Wu story 2.
Here's your to-do list.
This is what the faq lists:
Within 7 minutes, do the following:
===================================
- Defeat all generals on your way up to Sakon Shima
- Cross the bridge a bit to Sakon to initiate enemy fire plan, then defeat the task leader
- Defeat ambush that include Ling Tong and generic generals
- By now Zhou Yu will order you to defeat Sakon, do so
- Lu Xun will order Gan Ning to ready his ambush, defeat Gan Ning before he succeeds
- Defeat all officers (except Lu Xun) and achieve 300 KO
This is what the faq REALLY means. You may want to keep this in mind while attempting it.
Within 7 (SEVEN) minutes, do the following:
===================================
- kill 300
- trigger and foil all enemy plans personally
- kill all enemy officers but Lu Xun
So it's obvious that instead of telling you what needs to be accomplished, the faq is actually trying to give you a process of how to achieve it. Except that it's a bit on the anemic side (just a little bit, though). It doesn't make clear that second bulleted point I list. And that's where I ended up failing so much (well, and I didn't realize how severe a time crunch I was working under since you have to run ALL OVER THE BOARD CONSTANTLY for this).
Here's how I did it.
================================
1. When the stage starts, run forward and hit as many groups of peons you can with your horse and your weapon from horseback without stopping until you get up to the first enemy officer in your path. Kill him. Do your crowd-clearing C3 (SSTTT+) combo two or three times afterwards to kill as many of the peons that are left as possible. Hopefully the ones you didn't kill will be running for the hills by now (retreating). Ensure that Sun Ce is running on ahead of you as you get back on your horse to head to the next section. Quickly quickly is the key here.
2. Ride up to the next enemy officer in your path to your main camp. Kill him and as many of the peons in the area as you can with two or three more C3 (SSTTT+) combos. Quickly quickly. Ensure that Sun Ce keeps running on ahead instead of stopping to futz with peons before you leave the area.
3. Ride through your main camp (the area in the lower left where Zhou Yu is parked) killing as many baddie peons from horseback along the way as you can without stopping. Sun Ce should hopefully be nearby and reunite with Zhou Yu (there is no event for this, just make sure he ends up back in the main camp somewhat near Zhou Yu). If you can manage to get Sun Ce back to the main camp, he should be fine for the rest of the stage. (he kept dying when I ran thru and only killed the officers, leaving tons of peons in the area blocking his way to the main camp -- yes, he gets killed by peons. bleh.)
4. As you emerge on the other side of your main camp up the far left side of the map on the road/path heading north, there should be another enemy officer here to kill (one of your own peon officers should be nearby). Kill the enemy officer and do two or three more C3 (SSTTT+) combos to clear some nearby peons. You should be over 100 KO by this point, usually somewhere between 105 and 120. If you have more then that it is likely you've wasted too much time on one of the previous steps. Remember, quickly quickly.
5. Get back on your horse and head north toward Sakon. Swing your sword at the peons as you run through throngs of them on the way to Sakon, but beware of archers knocking you off your horse. You want to stay on your horse and keep running forward, the speed is more important than the KOs at this point. Run up to the bridge to trigger the Engineers event but don't cross the bridge. Leave Sakon Shima alive for now. The engineers spawn just to the east of the bridge. Kill the Lead Engineer (#1) and then kill some peons nearby (NEARBY is the key here -- don't stray too far away and do not cross the bridge to Sakon) while you're waiting for events to trigger.
6. Sakon will make a comment that it's good he has some engineers in reserve. A few second later another Lead Engineer will spawn (#2). Kill him too. As soon as you kill the second Lead Engineer, get on your horse and ride as quickly as possible to the middle section where Ling Tong is ambushing your officers. While you're riding down here, Zhou Yu will give you an event to kill Sakon, but ignore it for the moment.
7. Kill *ALL* enemy officers in the middle section around Ling Tong's ambush. Double check the map and make sure all of the enemy officers in the middle section are killed (I missed this at least once). Here is where you need to finish achieving the majority of your remaining 300 KOs, but you must be quick about it. Like the other sections, see what two or three C3 (SSTTT+) combos can get you after you've taken out all the enemy officers in the area. If you have at least 260 KOs by the time you are leaving this area, you should be fine. You may be able to get away with a few more swings if after two or three combos you still don't have enough KOs, but as soon as the event where Sakon sends a third set of engineers is triggered, you need to get back on your horse and hurry back up to Sakon Shima's area to take them out.
8. Kill the third set of engineers (#3) that Sakon sends toward your main camp FIRST. THEN, kill Sakon Shima immediately afterwards, and then run past him and kill the other enemy officer who was stationed behind him as quickly as possible. Hopefully between the ambush area and the area behind Sakon Shima, you should have your 300 KOs by now. After killing the other no-name officer behind Sakon, get on your horse and immediately ride south across the bridge and east toward Gan Ning and his no-name officer.
9. Kill Gan Ning and his no-name officer as quickly as possible, and if you still need to get up to your 300 KOs, then do it now, as this is the only thing you'll have left to do at this point. But hopefully you already had the 300, and all the plots should be triggered and foiled, and now, all the enemy officers are killed, so you should get the item message. The item can be found in the upper left section of the board behind where Sakon Shima was stationed.
Whew!
