Basically, which well known genres and cliches DW falls under (or specific characters fall under), things like that. It's better than it sounds. REALLY.

And Your Reward Is Clothes: In DW5 and probably other titles, one of the benefits you get for leveling up is the ability to select alternate outfits for your character. These are often taken from previous iterations of the game.

Chronic Hero Syndrome: Zhou Tai's story mode, especially in DW5, revolves around rescuing Sun Quan... over and over again.

Evil Laugh: Sima Yi. The eviller he gets, the more he laughs.

Go Karting with Bowser: Ling Tong's ending in DW5, in which he challenges his blood enemy Gan Ning to their final contest... a game of Go.
