So dissapointed with Dynasty Warriors 6...

So, I don't know if news has reached everyone here yet, but...

Dynasty Warriors 6 hit shelves today in Hong Kong, and rather than new additions to the character roster, seven characters got the axe. (Six if you don't count Zuo Ci...)

Da Qiao
Xing Cai
Jiang Wei
Pang De
Zhu Rong
Meng Huo
Zuo Ci (We pretty much surmised this, though...)

And only 17/41 remaining characters actually have a Musou Mode. :/

I'm EXTREMELY bummed out, considering Da Qiao was my favorite character in the entire series. -.-; She's pictured in the artwork for Xiao Qiao, who did not get cut, but she's definitely not playable, if she even makes an appearance in the game at all.

Xing Cai seems to have been liquidated entirely, as she's pictured in Zhang Fei's character art work, but as a chubby toddler.

Everyone else is completely MIA.

Man, everyone's so different now, I hardly know what to say. I still want that artbook, though. Guess it only comes with the treasure box edition of the Japanese/R2 game. Poo.

I've rehosted the scans with the names of the people as the file names so it's easier to tell who is who [ here (http://angband.org/~ryoko/dw6/) ]. (I couldn't get some of the scans to load completely and I figured others couldn't as well. So, obviously, some of the images are half blank. gomen.)

Much to everyone's dismay I'm sure, but I actually like Zhao Yun and Sun Shang Xiang's new character designs. As long as they keep SSX's personality roughly the same. I hear from geebs that SSX actually used a bow in the RotTK novel, so I guess they're trying to re-align the characters closer to how they're represented in the novel? Especially given how OLD Sun Jian now looks (old, but not bad!).

I'm rather miffed about Cao Pi's new character design. Don't care so much about the new weapon, but I dunno, now he just looks like a bratty kid. :(

Cao Ren just looks silly. Just completely and utterly silly.

I've disliked Zhou Yu's new character design since I first saw it. He looks like a nancy boy now (some of you probably like that kind of thing, I don't particularly). Boo.

As far as Lu Xun goes, I don't dislike his new design as much as Zhou Yu's because Lu Xun honestly looks about the same as his DW5 self except just without his hat, and perhaps slightly older. I will miss the two swords, but dropping it down to one isn't much of a change really. I don't really care that much.

Is Gan Ning related to Maeda Keiji? Not a big fan of the "guys with hair sticking straight up" schtick that the Japanese seem to love so much, for some reason. I'm kind of ambivalent about Gan Ning's new design overall.

Lu Meng I have never liked, his moveset was bad and his character design was forgettable at best. While his character design still kind of stinks, I'm hoping they've at least improved his moveset some.

Huang Gai actually looks better now, imo. 'Course he couldn't have looked much worse than his previous design (hello, I'm from SPARTA! Wait... what?). And when you're at the bottom, you can't go anywhere else but up. Better, better.

Zhou Tai looks about the same, thank god.

Whoa, what happened to Ling Tong?! Totally different! And a pole axe? Hah hah hah. You MUST see this one (http://angband.org/~ryoko/dw6/ling_tong.jpg), if nothing else!

Sun Ce is now a metrosexual Californian academic? And Sun Quan is now Lu Meng? Wait, I'm getting so confused!

Liu Bei is now twelve? x_x

Whoa, Huang Zhong looks AWESOME (http://angband.org/~ryoko/dw6/huang_zhong.jpg) now. Thumbs up on that one at least, koei!

I'm on the fence about the changes to Guan Ping. I liked his previous weapon better, but this one isn't bad. His appearance now conveys almost the same personality and such that his previous one did, except he's more of a pretty boy bishi than a shounen anime hero.

Yuan Shao looks about the same, but has a funny hat now.

Zhang Jiao I couldn't care less about (his character design doesn't look much different, although it now appears that he and the new Guan Yu could be brothers) but at least they changed his weapon. Kind of. I hope his moveset has been improved to where I don't want to bash my head on the coffee table constantly while playing him anymore.

I think Lu Meng's design is a dramatic improvement. To me, in the previous games, they were kinda going for the scruffy roguish hero kind of look like they had for Magoichi and Sakon, only without their penchant for skirt chasing. But that gold chest plate was kinda lame. I definitely like this look better. Now if they radically rework his moveset, he might just come off my "hate" list.

I'm ambivalent towards Cao Ren's new design. Its a comical exaggeration of what he always was to me in the games- a stocky, heavily armored dwarf. Alas, they had a chance to give him a better weapon here, but they blew it!

Yue Ying, yes, its an aesthetically pleasing design, but to me not "Yue Ying". Not every chick has to be a scantily clad hottie. Girls like her and Ginchiyo were supposed to be the "sensible" ones. Their character designs reflected that by having them in full armor rather than skimpy dresses. You already have Diao Chan, SSX, Zhen Ji, and the Qiaos looking all hot, there's nothing wrong with having a practical girl.

I do not like Wei Yan's new weapon at all. Its a club with a ridiculously huge head. I liked his fighting style in the previous games, acrobatic yet hard-hitting, and with this new weapon, I'm sure he plays a hell of a lot differently now, and not for the better.

I actually like Taishi Ci's design and new weapon. Taishi Ci has always been very generic looking, which is sad, because he's supposed to be one of the bad-asses of RotTK, and to me never reached the level of popularity that the other DW bad-asses have. His new weapon reminds me of Tonbo-Giri, which is cool. But his twin clubs were unique, though his 4th weapon always looked dumb to me.

I don't like Ling Tong or Guan Ping's weapon changes either. I mean, now they're spear guys? There's enough guys using polearms already, what made them unique were their weapons! I like Ling Tongs nunchuks and Guan Ping's big-ass sword. It was different. At least the left Zhou Tai's sword curved, but if he doesn't fight in the iai-jutsu style (I know its not historically/factually accurate, but its cool looking!) I shall be very disappointed.

And I find it weird that they kinda swapped Sun Ce and Sun Jian. Sun Jian always seemed like the more serious one (especially with the Abe Lincoln beard) but now his new design looks closer to Sun Ce's old one, and Sun Ce looks like a young Roman with the hairstyle and armor.
